Casting Call
April 2, 2008 by dave
So, Deal or No Deal is doing casting calls where my wife works Saturday.
I am thinking of going.
I am also thinking of not going.
The +’s would be appearing on the show and maybe winning a million dollars, maybe winning some money on a horse race.
The -’s would be standing in long lines, low, low chances of being picked.
My extreme hatred of long lines and rude crowds are making the minuses seem to weigh heavier. I have tried to audition for 2 other game shows and the casting calls have been not too horrible. Because they were not over advertised the crowds were not as bad as they could have been.
But Saturday I’d have to deal with the regular crowds + the crowd going only to audition.
Decisions, decisions.

Maybe they will pick you because of your shaved head.
I tried that. Here’s my story http://insidioustruth.blogspot.com/2007/04/deal-or-no-deal.html
Oh, and good luck if you decide to go. It’s best if you take a buddy and chairs.
What do they do on Deal or No Deal anyway? I’ve never seen it (because I don’t own a tv), but I’ve heard a lot about it. If it’s any good and you have to be knowledgeable, you should try it Dave, because you know lots of stuff.
It’s not that kind of game. It’s just a gamble. You pick a case that you hope has a million dollars in it. And then you open other cases and hope that they have less money. And then the banker will offer to buy your case. The banker offers more or less money depending on how much money is left in the unopened cases and the odds on how much money is in your case.
A few nights ago a woman got down to her case and one other unopened case. There was a million dollars in one and a few low amount in the other. Her family convinced her to take the deal, which was about 350,000. She didn’t want to take the deal, but she listened to her family. Turns out that she did have the million dollar case. But 350,000 dollars is a lot of money too.

You can go to the website and practice the game
It’s such a stupid show. I personally would not stand in line for 5 hours for a 30 second shot at impressing the cattle herders (I read LATS’ story).
I wouldn’t stand in line for 5 hours for any show. But, I might sit in line for some if the weather was nice. But, what about bathroom breaks? LATS mentioned port-o-potties. Ick. Still, desparate times and all that.
You told us about your other auditions. They were more than a 30-second impression, right?
What about something like Price is Right? That’s in L. A., isn;t it? Your odds of being told to come on down are admittedly low, but at least you get to sit the whole time. And, that’s just a matter of sending away for tickets, right? Or, what about Oprah? She gave everyone a car once. You should come away with a keychain at least.
Is she in L.A.?
@Paul
Actually I was thinking of using the shaved head angle. As I am a huge standup comedy fan I’ve heard almost all of Howie Mandell’s repertoire at one point or another.
Give a 20-30 second bit I think I could make the people doing the auditions laugh.
@LATS
My friend and his daughter are considering going.
@Kim
It’s really a luck thing like LATS said, pick a number and hope for the best.
@Charlene
It’s at the racetrack where Dar works during a race day so the usual track washrooms will be there so no need for porta potties.
Price is right is here in LA, but I’d more likely try for Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune before I’d try that even thugh I like Drew Carey.
Oprah is in Chicago.
